Day 1:

With excitement and anticipation for this chance of a lifetime tour, we pick up our fellow travelers and travel towards our overnight stay so we can catch our sky chariot tomorrow!

Day 2:

Meals: Dinner

Welcome to the province of Alberta and the vibrant city of Calgary, known as the Oil Capital of Canada and home of the world-famous Calgary Stampede! This evening, relax and enjoy a welcome dinner.

Day 3:

Meals: Breakfast

Photo Courtesy of Jim Warren A spectacular day awaits as we follow the Trans-Canada Highway into Banff National Park. We pass by the resort cities of Banff and Lake Louise Village before heading into the heart of the Canadian Rockies. We drive along the famous Icefields Parkway which has been voted one of the most spectacular drives in the world. You see for yourself why this mountain road that boasts a unique landscape rich in history and natural beauty is so famous. We view azure, blue Peyto Lake, Mistaya Canyon (the valley of the Grizzly Bears) and climb the switchback road through the Sunwapta Pass before arriving at the famous Columbia Icefields whose waters feed three oceans. We visit the Interpretive Centre then have the experience of a lifetime – a ride on the Ice Explorer vehicle for a close look at the Athabasca Glacier. Finally, at the end of this exciting day, we view the thundering Athabasca Falls and cross the Miette River before arriving in the resort community of Jasper. Jasper is recovering from last year’s devastating wildfire that damaged much of the west end of the town but left the downtown shops and hotels untouched. Take some time tonight to explore the shops, cafes, and restaurants of this beautiful and resilient town. We stay 2 nights in Jasper.

Day 4:

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Originally a tiny railway town, Jasper’s small-town charm is very different from the alpine resort style glamour of Banff. Surrounded by towering mountains, crystal clear lakes, and abundant wildlife, Jasper is located within the Jasper National Park and is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. We start the day with a short tour of the Jasper townsite before crossing the Athabasca River and driving along the eastern slope of the Rockies. We stop for a gentle walk along the edge of Maligne Canyon to see how the water has carved spectacular crevices out of the mountain. The scenic drive continues and brings us to beautiful Maligne Lake, the largest natural lake in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. We take a leisurely 90-minute cruise on the lake and take a short walk on legendary Spirit Island. The rest of the afternoon is free to enjoy Jasper. Tonight, we enjoy dinner in one of Jasper’s friendly restaurants.

Day 5:

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

This morning, its “ALL ABOARD” for the beginning of an amazing 2-day rail journey of a lifetime. The friendly Rocky Mountaineer staff shows us to our reserved seating in a deluxe SilverLeaf view car. The smell of coffee and freshly baked croissants are just the beginning of the fine breakfast and lunches that are served along with non-stop snacks, fresh cookies and complimentary adult beverages. Our journey begins as we head west leaving Jasper National Park and following the path of the mighty Fraser River. We slow to view 12,500 ft Mt. Robson before heading south along the western slopes of the Rocky Mountains. We follow the North Thompson River for the entire day. We travel along the western base of the Rocky Mountains Valley with panoramic views of glaciers, waterfalls and vast forests. As the journey continues, the valley widens to embrace small ranches and farms along with small rural communities. Keep an eye open for wildlife including bears, deer, elk, and an abundance of birds. Today’s journey comes to an end in the late afternoon as we arrive in the bustling city of Kamloops.

Day 6:

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

This morning, board the train and enjoy a hearty breakfast as we continue this unique circle rail journey. Now heading east, our journey takes us along the shores of the South Thompson River and the banks of the beautiful Shuswap Lakes. Today is full of spectacular scenery. We travel over and through three uniquely different mountain ranges, follow 4 major river systems, and view dozens of waterfalls, glaciers, and valleys. In the late afternoon, the train starts its long climb up through the historic Spiral Tunnels, emerging in the Province of Alberta and Banff National Park. We follow the Bow River before arriving in the iconic resort community of Banff. This completes our epic Circle the Rockies rail journey…but there is still much more of the amazing park to be explored.

Day 7:

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Today’s adventure starts with a journey west along the banks of the Bow River to Lake Louise Village. From there we make a breathtaking climb from the valley up the mountain road to the stunning landscape of the “Jewell of the Rockies” Lake Louise. There is time to enjoy a walk along the lakeshore and explore the shops and galleries of the iconic Chateau Lake Louise. Enjoy some lunch (on your own) before boarding the coach for a short journey along the Trans-Canada Highway to enter the province of British Columbia and Yoho National Park. There is lots of time to marvel at the beauty of Emerald Lake, the Natural Bridge, and the famous Spiral Tunnels before we return to the province of Alberta and our accommodation in Banff.

Day 8:

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Start the morning with a hearty breakfast, then join the rest of our group for an exciting tour of Banff. A gondola ride to the top of 7500 ft Sulphur Mt. gives us an amazing panorama view of over 50 miles in every direction. It’s a great opportunity to view the Bow Valley, Lake Minnewanka, and the town site of Banff from high above. Returning to the valley, we travel beside Tunnel Mountain, view the cascading Bow Falls, and spend some time touring the beautiful Cascades of Time Gardens of the Park Headquarters. After a viewing of the mysterious “Hoodoos” and the historic Banff Springs Hotel, our tour comes to an end, leaving us with the full afternoon to explore the shops, museums, cafes, and nearby trails of Banff.

Day 9:

Meals: Breakfast

Our spectacular Canadian Rockies by Rail tour comes to an end with our departure for home from the Calgary International Airport. **Please keep June 27 open in case our flight time changes.**
