Day 1:

Meals: Dinner

This morning, after picking up our traveling family, we head south to the heart of Arkansas. Our colorful fall adventure is nestled in the Ouachita Mountains.  Today we take a tour of Post Winery in Altus, AR. Officially founded in 1880, it’s one of the oldest continuously operating wineries in the United States. After a stop at the Mount Magazine Visitor Center, we reach the beautiful Mount Magazine Lodge where we stay for 2 nights.

Day 2:

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Photo Courtesy of Mt. Magazine Lodge Who wants to go to Paris? Nestled at the base of Mount Magazine in the scenic Ouachita/Ozark region of northwest Arkansas, Paris, AR is a small town known as the "Gateway to Mount Magazine". Stroll the charming courthouse square, admire the Eiffel Tower replica, and explore museums. Stop at Love Lock Fence where couples, families, and friends bring a padlock, write their names or a date on it, lock it to the fence, and keep the memory. We mosey on over to Subiaco Abbey in Subiaco, AR where lunch awaits, followed by a tour of the Benedictine monastery founded in 1878. This afternoon, our scenic fall drive takes us back to our beautiful lodge.

Day 3:

Meals: Breakfast

From the top of Hot Springs Mountain Tower, Hot Springs, AR an unforgettable overview of Hot Springs and its natural surroundings capture your senses! A lower enclosed deck showcases exhibits on local history and geology about the park’s rich past. Our first stop in town is the Gangster Museum, a captivating, seven-gallery attraction that immerses visitors in the city’s Prohibition-era underworld. Enjoy lunch and free time on your own as you explore Bathhouse Row in downtown Hot Springs, lined with historic bathhouses, eclectic shops, galleries, and restaurants. We “fall” asleep in our Hot Springs lodging tonight.

Day 4:

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

As we drive the Talimena Scenic Byway, our view transforms into a breathtaking corridor of color along the Ouachita Mountains. Mena Depot Museum, one of Arkansas’s most architecturally significant preserved railroad stations, gives us a look back in time to the golden age of rail travel and the early 20th century boomtown days of western Arkansas. You enjoy lunch with a view today at Queen Wilhelmina Lodge as we look over the fall foliage decorating the mountains. Our scenic drive continues until we reach our hotel for the night in McAlester, OK.

Day 5:

Meals: Breakfast

Before heading home, we visit the US Marshals Museum in Fort Smith, AR with a striking star-shaped design, featuring sweeping glass walls with views of the Arkansas River and brilliant foliage reflecting through the glass. This state-of-the-art institution that opened in 2023 offers an immersive educational journey into the history and legacy of the US Marshals. As we leave behind the golden hills and historic treasures of Arkansas, we carry with us memories of color, culture, and charm that have us Falling for Arkansas.
