Prepare for an amazing trip revolving around beauty and history. This summer journey will entice you with awe-inspiring landscapes and historic sights. Our days are filled with relaxing travel, serene topography, underground adventures, and even an appreciation for two of the founders of our country. So come with us on a pleasant excursion down the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Day 1:

Meals: Lunch

Let’s hit the trail! Making our way towards the heavenly mountains and valleys of the Blue Ridge Parkway, we’ll end our first day in Evansville, IN.

Day 2:

Meals: Breakfast

Our exploration begins in West Virginia today…where a surprise is awaiting your arrival! Nothing keeps one more intrigued than a little mystery in the mix. In preparation for the next leg of our journey, we will kick off our boots in Charleston, WV, tonight!

Day 3:

Meals: Breakfast

This morning, we begin our day with a tour of the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine. This underground tour includes hands-on exhibits and a ride through an actual coal mine with a veteran miner as your guide.  With our exploration of life as a miner behind us, we travel to The Greenbrier for a bunker tour. The resort’s bunker was built as an emergency fallout shelter during the Cold War. It’s a testament to the apprehensions and adversities experienced only a few decades ago. Following our full day of history, we will end at our hotel in Charlottesville, VA, where we will rest our adventurous heads for the next three nights!

Day 4:

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

The underground adventure continues at Luray Caverns, where the lighted paths weaving through the cathedral-sized rooms will reveal dynamic formations years in the making. Up next, we’re heading to the breathtaking Shenandoah National Park, where a variety of overlook points will give you the opportunity to take in the serene surroundings of this famous valley. We’ll spend most of the day on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Shenandoah before retiring for the evening.

Day 5:

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

We press on down the road today to Montpelier, the home of James Madison. This founding father was pivotal to the start of our republic. You’ll see what life was like for the fourth president of the United States. After a Making Memories provided delicious lunch at Michie Tavern, we will move a little backwards in time from the fourth president to the third with a visit to Monticello, Thomas Jefferson’s home. He, like Madison, was instrumental in making America what it is today. You will get to roam the rooms of his cultured abode, taking you back to an earlier time in our country.

Day 6:

Meals: Breakfast

Our first stop today will be at the Natural Bridge State Park. At the top of a limestone gorge, you’ll have a captivating view of the scenic surroundings. Then we embark on our next historical exploration at the Mabry Mill which offers us another glimpse into old-time life in rural Virginia. Finally, we’ll visit the Blue Ridge Music Center for some foot tapping bluegrass music in the great outdoors. Our adventurous group will rest tonight in Jonesville, NC.

Day 7:

Meals: Breakfast

Our journey down the Blue Ridge Parkway continues with a stop at Moses H. Cone Memorial Park where Moses and his brother Caesar established one of North Carolina’s largest textile empires. Prepare yourselves to see the beautiful, most photographed section of the Blue Ridge parkway as we drive on the Linn Cove Viaduct! This is the most famous section of bridge on the Blue Ridge Parkway! The task was to create a roadway that would not damage the natural environment of Grandfather Mountain. In 1987, this 1,234-foot section of the Blue Ridge Parkway was opened to the public without a single structural problem! Not ONE CRACK on any segment! Afterwards, we’ll go see the Mile High Swinging Bridge where we can catch a shuttle to the top of Grandfather Mountain. After today’s amazing views, we can dream of returning one day as we rest in our hotel in Ashville, NC.

Day 8:

Meals: Breakfast

On day eight, we’ll begin our journey homeward and at lunch at the Nashville Farmers’ Market. Here, you’ll find fresh food, and you can also enjoy the market house and garden center for a variety of crafts, culinary goodies and even home grown vegetables! Our day will end in Paducah, KY, tonight.

Day 9:

Meals: Breakfast

We return home, filled with memories of lush scenery and a deeper appreciation for history. Thank you for trusting us with your time, and we hope to see you on another adventure!
