How many times have we watched movies where desperate prospectors risked their lives and limbs for the chance to snatch some precious gold nuggets? On this trip, you’ll see mines and even do a little panning yourself. Who knows? You might just strike it rich! Even if you only end up with fool’s gold, you’ll still make plenty of memories. After all, the journey is the real treasure.

Day 1:

Our first day on the road takes us all the way to Lincoln, NE, where we will “camp out” in our hotel for the night in preparation for the nuggets we’ve planned for you on this tour!

Day 2:

Meals: Breakfast

Day two of our journey takes us to the steps of the Golden Spike Tower and Visitor Center where we’ll get a birds-eye perspective of Union Pacific and Bailey Yard’s significance.  History is always fun when we turn it into a shopping opportunity with Buffalo Bill swag at Fort Cody Trading Post.  We will continue on the Westward trail as our day comes to a close in Wyoming.

Day 3:

Meals: Breakfast

Today, as we head even further west, we begin to leave behind the scenes of green and trade them for rugged terrain views instead. After a few unique stops along the way, we will arrive at our evening destination in Tooele, UT.

Day 4:

Meals: Breakfast

By mid-morning, we’ll reach the California Trail Historic Interpretive Center. The center will explain the history of the brave souls who traveled the two-thousand-mile trail leading to the Golden State. Aren’t you glad we’re in the big bus and not a covered wagon? Afterwards, we’ll finish off the day in Carson City, NV, where our hotel will be called home camp for three nights!

Day 5:

Meals: Breakfast

Our first stop will be a tour of the Carson City Capitol Building. The capitol’s second story is Battle Born Hall, which presents Nevada’s history through a variety of exhibits. After that, we will visit the Nevada State Museum and roam the building looking at different artifacts from an earlier time in American History.  The big bus whisks us away to our first mining adventure, the Ponderosa Mine Tour. In front of mine, is a saloon reminiscent of an old-fashioned saloon from back in the 1860’s.  Did you find any nuggets of information that will live on in your memories today?

Day 6:

Meals: Breakfast

There’s no preparation needed for our activity today! Just sit back, relax and enjoy a cruise on the beautiful Lake Tahoe! Then we’ll end the day with some free time to eat, shop and explore Tahoe City, CA, before returning to our hotel.

Day 7:

Meals: Breakfast

A somber tale awaits us at the Donner Memorial State Park. This memorial commemorates the pioneers who crossed the Sierra on their way west. The Donner party was stranded during their journey and many members of that party were killed. Once we’ve gazed at the amazing terrain and remembered the brave travelers who came before us, we’re off to Sutter’s Mill in Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park for another educational tour. Afterwards, you’ll enjoy more free time in the afternoon. This evening, before retiring to our hotel for two nights in Sonora, CA, we will enjoy a show at the Sierra Repertory Theatre!

Day 8:

Meals: Breakfast

At last! It’s finally our chance to look for gold at California Gold Panning. Dip those pans and look for the nuggets! Our panning adventure will be followed by a trip to Railtown 1897 Historic Park where a host of movies were made!  In fact, the steam engine from Back to the Future is located here. Putting the trains behind us, we head to Columbia State Historic Park. Columbia, CA, unlike other gold rush settlements, survived the test of time, and we’ll enjoy all this bustling town still has to offer. While here, we’ll satisfy our sweet tooths at the Nelson’s Columbia Candy Kitchen, a 5th generation candy store. From there, we’ll take advantage of a picture stop at Mark Twain Cabin before retiring for the night.

Day 9:

Meals: Breakfast

Today we will be spending time in the one and the only Yosemite National Park. Upon arrival in the park, we will enjoy a guided bus tour of the valley floor, which is the best way to experience all the wonders that the park has to offer. Our expert tour guide will share their knowledge about this remarkable place, with a focus on natural history, indigenous peoples, the first settlers and wildlife. On our tour you will see the breathtaking views of Yosemite Falls, Half Dome, El Capitan, Tunnel View, Bridal Veil Fall and more. Did anyone see Yogi Bear?  We will overnight in Sacramento.

Day 10:

Meals: Breakfast

Since our trip has reached its end, we must now head home with golden treasures of memories to keep forever. We are thankful you’ve decided to join us on this unique trip full of nuggets!  ***Please keep August 19 open, in case of flight changes.***
