Tour Description
Occasionally in this world, all the stars seem to align and something remarkable happens, and if you are paying attention, you can be there when it does take place. On this short little adventure to make memories we will be there when it does. On April 8, 2024, certain parts of the country will get the chance to see something truly astounding. A total Solar Eclipse is coming to Missouri, but the path of totality is narrow. That is why Making Memories is heading to Cape Girardeau when for 4 minutes and 5 seconds the Moon will move between the Earth and the Sun and cast its shadow on the Earth. Along the path of totality, darkness will fall in the middle of the day. Planets and stars may appear. The temperature could drop up to 5 degrees and animals and insects will behave like nightfall has set.Day 1:
Meals: Lunch
As we start off on our journey together take some time to get to know each other as we travel on down to eastern Missouri. They don’t call Missouri the Cave State for nothing so we will be making a stop at Meramec Caverns for a chance to dive underground to appreciate and wonder at the subterranean world. We will be overnighting in Perryville, Mo.
Day 2:
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
We have a busy day today as we explore St. Genevieve Mo. St. Genevieve is Missouri’s oldest permanent European settlement. Today we are going to spend our time diving into the history of this town and walking through some of the oldest still-standing buildings west of the Mississippi.
Day 3:
Meals: Breakfast
Today is the day! Today, we will experience a rare total eclipse, and for 4 minutes we will be in darkness in the middle of the day. Solar Glasses are provided so you can see this event’s beauty with your own eyes. (Please don’t look at the sun without solar glasses - going home blind is no way to make memories). In the build-up to this event, Cape Girardeau will have a big festival filled with food trucks, vendors, locals, and fellow travelers to take in the event. This portion of the country won’t be seeing another total solar eclipse for 100 years making this truly a once-in-a-lifetime memory. After the festivities have concluded, we will make our way to our hotel for our final overnight.
Day 4:
Meals: Breakfast
Today we look back at our time together and those 4 otherworldly minutes. As we head home, we know this will be a memory you will never forget.
