Tour Description

Day 1:
Meals: Lunch
We’ll start our pilgrimage somewhere new and exciting! Since this is our first day together, you will want to spend time getting to know your new family for this venture. Sit back, relax and make some new friends. Our motor “carriage” will take us to Arcola, IL, to our hotel for two nights.
Day 2:
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Our day begins with a short drive to the Amish community in Arthur, IL. While there, a local guide will accompany us on a drive through the Amish countryside. As we make our way through the area, our guide will share the history, religion and lifestyle of the local Amish. We will have the opportunity to visit unique cottage businesses scattered throughout our route. Along the way, we will have lunch IN AN AMISH HOME. Our guide will explain more about the Amish house style and lifestyle while you eat. After lunch, our journey will continue as we make our way back to Arthur. Upon our arrival back in town, we will have free time to explore the shops on your own! You will have the opportunity to pick up some fudge or cheese, grab an ice cream, visit shops with quilts, fine arts, antiques, furniture and more before returning to our hotel for the night.
Day 3:
Meals: Breakfast
This morning, we head to our next Amish community. By afternoon, we will arrive in Shipshewana, IN, for a little shopping at the famous Shipshewana Flea Market. After our time here, we will turn our motor “carriage” towards Middlebury, IN. Here, you will be able to have dinner on your own in Das Dutchman Essenhaus restaurant, walk the relaxing grounds and visit the shops before retiring for the night in this quaint Amish inn. Unwind and unpack because we will call Essenhaus Inn home for the next three nights.
Day 4:
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Our journey today first takes us to the Dutch Country Market in Middlebury to view Katie’s noodle making! We will see a noodle making demonstration and enjoy browsing the wide array of Amish food items. Next, we will meet our step-on guide who will show us the charm of the Amish Country. From back roads to farms to a wooden toy maker shop, we will tour everyday places in Amish life. We will end our tour at Menno-Hof Mennonite and Amish Visitor Center, where we’ll learn more about their faith and life. Finally, we’ll head to Chef Shawna Rae’s for more Amish cuisine before returning to our beds for a full night’s rest.
Day 5:
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
The adventure continues with a visit to the famous Yoder’s Shipshewana Hardware Store where we will have a chance to shop for hand tools, kitchen gadgets, housewares and more! Next, we will be transported to “pretzel paradise” at Ben’s Pretzels, 3rd generation Amish bakers. Here, we will enjoy a short pretzel making presentation highlighting Ben’s amazing story. Then arrives the opportunity to roll our own pretzels and watch them bake! This afternoon, we’re excited to be able to take you to a local, entertaining performance of FANNIE! Our day doesn’t end yet! This evening, we will enjoy another Amish homestyle meal and buggy rides together before hanging our hats back at the inn.
Day 6:
Meals: Breakfast
Our time in Amish country wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the family-run, Amish-Mennonite woodworking shop called Teaberry Wood Products. Here you will have the unique opportunity to not only tour the shop and see the fine craftsmanship the Amish are known for, but also to craft something of your own! This will be a souvenir that will remind you of our Amish journey together for years to come! In addition, you’ll have the perfect opportunity to pick some quality souvenirs for your friends and family. For our last night on the Amish trail, we will stay near Collinsville, IL.
Day 7:
Meals: Breakfast
Our travels to a simpler time will make it seem like years have passed in the short time we’ve been gone. Today, we arrive home and say farewell to all our new family while reminiscing about this unique opportunity of visiting life at a much simpler pace. We hope you had an amazing time making some charming Amish memories with us!
