Day 2:

Meals: Breakfast

We continue northeast through Illinois and Indiana into Michigan. Before we reach our destination for this evening, we visit the shores of Lake Michigan and ride the Saugatuck Dunes. Our hotel for the next three nights will be in Grandville, MI.

Day 3:

Meals: Breakfast

We start the day in color with a vibrant Step on Guided tour of the beautiful town of Holland, MI. Here we will see all that Holland has to offer. Our guided tour ends in downtown Holland where we have some free time to enjoy the local cuisine. The Dutch Marketplace is located downtown and features authentic Dutch food, souvenirs, Music, Klompen Dance performances, and more! The adults are not the only ones who can show off, though. After lunch, the adorable local children show off their Dutch pride with genuine costumes, songs, and dances in the Kinderparade. Leaving downtown, we find ourselves at the vibrant Veldheer Tulip Gardens before tiptoeing to the eclectic De Klomp Wooden Shoe Factory at Nelis Dutch Village. Don’t let the name fool you! The De Klomp Wooden Shoe Factory provides not only wooden shoes but also cookies, pastries, and intricate Dutch pottery. Our day may end, but our immersion into Dutch culture is not over because we will be returning.

Day 4:

Meals: Breakfast

We depart the “City of Tulips” this morning to experience the history at the Grand Rapids Public Museum and the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum in Grand Rapids, MI. The interactive exhibits and detailed recreations will pull you into the lives of President and Mrs. Ford. Next, your senses are delighted at the Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park, a 125-acre botanical garden and sculpture park. With magical gardens and intricate sculptures, it’s no wonder The Meijer Gardens is the #1 attraction in all of Michigan. Discover this perfect blend of natural and artificial art during a guided tram tour followed by free exploration. We will be returning to Grandville for our final night at this property.

Day 5:

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

We depart for Windmill Island with its 200-yearold Dutch windmill, “DeZwaan,” surrounded by a spectacle of tulips. Leaving “DeZwann” behind us, we head over to the highlight of the Holland Tulip Festival, the “Volksparade,” where the Governor of Michigan leads hundreds of people dressed in traditional costumes, including wooden shoes, in a delightful display of heritage. This afternoon we depart Holland and begin our journey home. Before turning in for the night, Making Memories will treat you to dinner at “Das Dutchman Essenhaus” for some traditional Amish food. Our hotel for the night will be in Middlebury, IN.
