Fairbanks’ renowned aurora viewing lures people from around the world during the Aurora Season from late August to late April. In fact, at this time of the year, the aurora will be visible an average of 4 out of 5 nights when the sky is clear. With four different opportunities to go and watch the night sky, those make for pretty good odds! However, there is more to do in Alaska than just the Northern Lights, so we will experience everything Alaska offers in her winter months. From dog sledding to hot springs, this will be a one-of-a-kind winter adventure.

Day 1:

Our flight will take off early tomorrow morning; therefore, we will be heading to our hotel in Kansas City this evening to get to the airport early.

Day 2:

Meals: Dinner

Our flight will be landing this afternoon in Anchorage. Arriving at our hotel here for the next three days, we will enjoy a welcome dinner for us as our time in Alaska begins Map

Day 3:

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Our first full day in Alaska we will be experiencing an authentic piece of Alaskan majesty. However, on our way, we first stop at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, a sanctuary dedicated to preserving Alaska’s wildlife. While here, you will get a chance to see bison, musk ox, moose, elk, bear, and many others. We have a quick picture stop at Portage Lake for some incredible photo opportunities. Finally, the highlight of our day, we will arrive at Lazy Otter Cruises for a Glacier Cruise where we will get close to these massive rivers of ice, and you can hear the snap, crackle, and splash echo against the towering mountains of the Chugach National Forest. You will also want to watch for sea otters, stellar sea lions, bears, mountain goats, whales, and more! Later this afternoon, our boat will return to Whittier, and we will drive back to Anchorage

Day 4:

Meals: Breakfast

Today starts with a step on guided tour, where you can see and hear an insider view of this historic city. Next, you can enjoy a little free time downtown to eat some of the local cuisines and do a little shopping before we move on to our next stop at the Anchorage Museum. Alaska’s largest museum, the Anchorage Museum, tells the story of Alaska and the North. Following this, we will be returning to our hotel for our final night there.

Day 5:

Meals: Breakfast

This morning we take a step into the past as we visit the Musk Ox Farm. Learn about the Musk Ox project, a sustainable domestication effort that has worked to preserve, protect, and increase the population of these wooly creatures. Continue to Talkeetna as Denali, North America’s tallest mountain looms large over the landscape. Here we have the opportunity to take an optional flightseeing tour and experience a breathtaking perspective of Denali. Afterward, we will check into our lodge in Talkeetna. You can step outside on the hotel deck with a coffee and search for the Northern Lights.

Day 6:

Meals: Breakfast

This morning we have the opportunity to take an optional tour to experience some Dog Sledding up close and personal. Here we can feel the might of the Alaskan Husky as you drive a team of huskies through the snow. Take a photo with your dog team, give each dog a pet, thank them for the ride and then head over to play with the adorable puppies and hear how these little fur balls will become the next great champions. Following this experience, we start northward this afternoon for our journey to Fairbanks. Sit back and relax as we are whisked away through snow-covered mountains and striking valleys. Have your cameras ready for any wildlife as you pass by. This evening we will arrive in Fairbanks, where we will stay for the next three nights. However, if you are feeling up to it you can spend some time tonight waiting to see the aurora in cozy comfort of our hotel’s Aurora Conservatory. Boasting three glass walls and a slated glass ceiling, the Aurora Conservatory faces north towards the beautiful Chena River and offers fantastic winter views and a front-seat to the aurora in optimal viewing conditions!

Day 7:

Meals: Breakfast

Now today is all yours, all day long. You may wish to enjoy an optional Flight to The Arctic Circle, wander the area with your camera, or maybe just sit back and rest up from your late night last night. Tonight, we will have an opportunity to head over to a Aurora Viewing Lodge for another chance to search for the Northern Lights. In cozy comfort, as you can feel the anticipation as you wait for Mother Nature to start the show! Chat with the guides, explore the interactive exhibits, play games, or just relax around the fire, while we wait for the unforgettable display of beautiful, eerie colors shifting and transforming against the darkness above.

Day 8:

Meals: Breakfast

This morning you will have a chance to sleep in. In the afternoon, we will be heading out to explore Chena Hot Springs (Don’t forget your swimsuit!). While here, we will have some time to relax in the warm, bubbling waters of the Springs. After soaking for a bit, we will go over and enjoy a guided tour of an Ice Museum; here, you can pick up a parka before you enter free of charge. Your guide will review some of the iconic ice sculptures and exciting facts about the museum before allowing you to free roam and take pictures! We have one last chance to search for the Northern Lights at the Aurora Viewing Lodge tonight.

Day 9:

Meals: Breakfast

Today you will have a chance to sleep in and rest up from your late night. Departing our hotel, we head to the airport for our afternoon flight. We will spend this evening flying as we make our way south.

Day 10:

We will be landing this morning and going directly home. We hope you have made some lifelong memories on this journey, and we hope you will join us again. **Please keep the following day March 23 free in case of flight delays**
