This spring, Making Memories Tours is proud to present our newest product, Texas by Train. Our trip to the heart of Texas takes place right in the middle of Bluebonnet season, so you can expect plenty of vibrant wildflowers on the adventure. On this journey, we will make our way to San Antonio and Texas Hill Country, and we will be arriving by train.Day 1:
Meals: Dinner
Our first day together has us arriving at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum this afternoon. This exciting stop is America's premier institution of Western history, art, and culture. Dinner will be included onsite at the museum for a memorable experience! We will overnight in Oklahoma City.
Day 2:
Meals: Breakfast
This morning we take a short ride to the train station where we will board our Amtrak train for our journey into Texas. We will spend this morning on the train. We will stop in Fort Worth for a chance to get out, stretch our legs, explore, and grab a bite to eat before we hop back on the train and make our way to downtown San Antonio where we will be spending the next four nights.
Day 3:
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Our adventure in Texas continues today with a full day of sightseeing around old San Antonio. Today you are free to explore because there is a "hop-on, hop-off" tour through the city. You can hop on a double-decker bus and hop off at any attraction you want to see. Stay as long or as short as you like; when you're ready to go, you simply wait for another bus. Repeat until you've taken in as much as you like. This evening we have an included meal at the Tower of the Americas. This revolving restaurant gives us all an incredible 360-degree view of San Antonio.
Day 4:
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Today we'll enjoy a leisurely morning as we visit some interesting sites in San Antonio. The Guenther House and Pioneer Flour Mill will be our day's first stop. The home was initially built as a private residence in 1859 by Pioneer Flour Mills founder Carl Hilmar Guenther. Next, we will have an included lunch at "Mi Tierra Restaurant and Bakery" Afterwards, we mosey over to the Mission Concepcion. This chapel, founded in 1731, is the oldest unrestored church in America. Two bell towers flank its main entrance, and the entire structure is made of locally sourced stone. We will be returning to our hotel tonight in downtown San Antonio.
Day 5:
Meals: Breakfast
A busy day awaits! First, we honor our history with a tour through the National Museum of the Pacific War. Then, we venture to Wildseed Farms to see Texas' diverse and breathtaking wildflowers. Browse more than 150 shops, boutiques, antique stores, and art galleries during your free time in Fredericksburg. After a colorful day, we return to the hotel to rest.
Day 6:
This morning we say goodbye to San Antonio as we hop back on our train and start making our way north. We will once again have a little free time in Fort Worth before we reboard our train and continue onward. We will disembark in Norman, OK, and head to our last hotel in Oklahoma City.
Day 7:
Meals: Breakfast
We end our tour today with memories filled with the colors of Texas and stories of adventures with newfound friends in our hearts.
