What could be better than the magnificent beauty of fall leaves in New England? Adding three days in Cape Cod watching the waves crash over the shores should be a good answer. Make this combination of spectacular beauty and relaxation the highlight of your fall plans. As we journey to New England, we’ll pay tribute to our military and civilian heroes at the Air Force Museum, Flight 93 Memorial, Mayflower II and Plymouth Plantation before enjoying the surf, sand and sun. We’ll crown our trip with God’s magnificent beauty and then finish up with the Queen of Comedy at the Lucy and Desi Museum.

Day 1:

It’s our first day together on this great adventure, so be sure to take some time to meet and get to know some of your fellow travelers. You’ll add many to your extended family before our journey’s end. We’ll spend our first night in Terre Haute, Ind.

Day 2:

Meals: Breakfast

We’ll be cruising to the US Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio, to stroll through the World’s Largest Aviation Museum. You’ll enjoy aircraft from Wright Brothers to Remotely Piloted Aircraft. We’ll finish our day getting a good night’s rest.

Day 3:

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Today we make our way to Shanksville, PA to pay tribute at the Flight 93 National Memorial. We’ll journey on through Pennsylvania to find Amish country for a wonderful dinner and evening’s rest at Bird-in-Hand, Pa.

Day 4:

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Immerse yourself in the uncluttered lifestyle of the Amish as we spend the morning with a Step-on-Guide showing us the countryside and making some stops for shopping. The highlight of the day will be a home-cooked Amish lunch in an Amish home. With full bellies, we’ll nap on the bus as we travel to our hotel in Connecticut.

Day 5:

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Today, we pay tribute to the first travelers, the Pilgrims, arriving 400 years ago. We’ll enjoy a tour of the Mayflower II and Plymouth Rock before heading to the Plimoth Patuxet Museum where a guide will lead us through experiences and exhibits showcasing how the Pilgrims and Native Americans interacted during the 17th century. After a day of soaking in some early American history, we’re ready for some beach time on Cape Cod where we’ll stay for the next three nights.

Day 6:

Meals: Breakfast

This will be the first of three mornings in which you have the opportunity to wake up and watch the sunrise up over the ocean. Or if you prefer you can stay in bed. In either case, we have a full and exciting day ahead of us as we will be spending the day with our step-on guide touring the sights of Cape Cod. We’ll hop on our coach and head out to Provincetown. Here we will board a boat and do a little whale watching this afternoon.

Day 7:

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Our second day on Cape Cod gets even better! Today, you have the opportunity to board the Ferry and take a boat ride out to Martha’s Vineyard and see how the wealthy elites live. Your afternoon here on the island is your free time, so feel free to shop and explore to your heart's content. We return to our Resort this afternoon to find dinner awaiting us.

Day 8:

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

It’s a day for high lights–pun intended! We bid adieu to the beach and head to the mountains of Maine. We’re still seafarers as we make our way along the coast to the Portland Head Lighthouse in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. This iconic lighthouse and Keepers’ Quarters has been a sentinel for sailors since 1791. Don’t forget your camera because you won’t want to miss this famous photo op. The mountains are calling as we head inland to go Moose Hunting (cameras only) at Sunday River Resort. We’ll be here for dinner and a good night’s rest.

Day 9:

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

We’re off to see the highlight of our trip – the famous Kancamagus Highway. There will be multiple photo opportunities of leaves and covered bridges along the way. The autumn colors take center stage this afternoon from both the land and air. The Hobo Railroad provides a view from the comfort of restored vintage coaches on a historic 1800’s rail system. The Loon Mountain Gondolas lift us to the peak of Loon Peak for stunning mountain views. Our hotel that night is nestled in the mountains of St. Johnsbury, Vermont.

Day 10:

Meals: Breakfast

We have another beautiful drive through the mountains today as we continue our time in Vermont. Our coach takes us to the Quechee Gorge Bridge. Rising 165 feet over the Ottauquechee River, this bridge gives us the perfect vantage point to see the colorful, fall landscape Vermont is so famous for. After crossing the gorge, we move on to the quaint Quechee Covered Bridge. Its simple, wooden structure is located over the playful waters create a whimsical scene, epitomizing everything that makes Vermont a charming fall destination. But the Quechee is just the first covered bridge we are going to see because we’re traveling to Woodstock! Don’t worry. You don’t need to dig out your peace sign necklaces because this is a very different Woodstock. Dotted with covered bridges and surrounded by vibrant fall colors, this charming New England village is a leaf-peeper's dream. Leaving Woodstock, we travel to Weston, Vt. for some shopping at the Vermont Country Store. With our memories full of vibrant foliage and covered bridges, we leave the beauty of Vermont behind and overnight in Vestal, N.Y.

Day 11:

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Even though we’re leaving the N.H. and Vt. mountains behind, we still have some beauty and fun planned. Enjoy the morning strolling through Corning Museum of Glass watching demonstrations and taking in the glassware collections. After seeing these amazing works of art, we make our way to the Lucy-Desi Museum in St. Jamestown, N.Y. for a tour of all-things-Lucy, including original costumes, props, awards and re-creations of I Love Lucy sets. Who doesn’t want to laugh along with Lucille Ball and her classic antics? We’ll spend the night in St. Jamestown, N.Y., before heading west in the morning.

Day 12:

As the big, red bus begins our journey westward, we spend time reminiscing with our new family members and sharing the joys of our trip. We overnight in Plainfield, Ind.
