Tour Description

You will discover first hand why the Amish are old-fashioned and don’t utilize electricity the way we consume it. Making Memories is excited to offer you an up-close and personal experience where you are involved in the nitty-gritty of the Amish life. Traveling to Shipshewana, Indiana we are hosted by the 3rd largest Amish population in the United States. With only 658 people registered in the 2010 census, this small-town feel is for real! The core values are eagerly upheld by the surrounding Mennonite and Amish roots. Come discover the inner workings of this community and all it has to offer.

Day 1:

Lodging: Drury Inn & Suites

The first day of our fabulous Amish tour we will be traveling north to destination of Champaign, Illinois. On occasion you can find an Amish buggy traveling through this countryside, but hold your horses. In a day, you’ll see those buggies everywhere!

Day 2:

Lodging: Farmstead Inn Meals: Breakfast and Dinner

Our travel ends in beautiful Shipshewana. There we will unload for our lunch enjoyment at the well known Blue Gate Restaurant. After a wonderful lunch we will take a pit stop at the Hostetler’s Hudson Auto Museum. This pristine showroom houses the world’s largest collection under one roof of Hudson, Essex and Terraplace automotives. You’ll love the restored and well-cared for cars. Our hotel accommodations are at the quaint Farmstead Inn. With nice furnishings and comfortable mattresses, it is a spotless place with friendly and accommodating staff to make our stay the best. Our welcome dinner will be on the grounds in the traditional Amish style.

Day 3:

Lodging: Farmstead Inn Meals: Breakfast

After a hearty breakfast, we will welcome our local tour-guide expert who escorts us all around the area. We’ll visit some really fun places like an Amish wind chime shop, Jayco RV Factory, Amish potter maker and an Amish buggy maker. You’ll be free to enjoy lunch in the local café if you choose! An early evening arrival at our hotel gives you a chance to keep exploring or enjoy the evening cadence of a small-town.

Day 4:

Lodging: Farmstead Inn Meals: Breakfast and Dinner

Rise and shine today! We have a lot of planned activities you will enjoy. Because the area has so much to offer, we have invited our tour guide back for another round. Today we will visit the Amish Bakery and Market, Cheese Haus, and a Amish Quilt Shop, just to name a few. There are still flea markets and crafting/antique venues to scout. After you enjoy another great Amish lunch, we have the opportunity to experience an authentic Amish buggy ride. Our evening includes the Blue Gate Dinner and Theater! Dinner is home cooked like grandma used to make and the theater hosts a number of family top-rated, quality entertainment and musical venues.

Day 5:

Lodging: Drury Inn and Suites Meals: Breakfast

This morning is our last morning in Amish country. After breakfast, we will load the coach and turn our hearts toward home. Our nightly retreat will be in Collinsville, Illinois.

Day 6:

Meals: Breakfast

We have traveled over 1500 miles these last six days to give you a personal insight of the everyday life of what being Amish is all about. It has been wonderful to watch the Amish practice everyday tasks of the Amish people. Making Memories’ goal has been for you to have enough memories to last a lifetime! Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your “memory making” experience.
