Tour Description

We’re not celebrating the Twelve Days of Christmas – we’re celebrating the Twelve Days of Fall Foliage on this twelve day tour of living history. We will feature a showcase of kaleidoscope gold, scarlet, purple and orange dressings on display for the great appreciation of us leaf peepers. We travel to Yankeeland during peak season but not just to look – we have plenty of delightful and captivating stops along the way. Whether it is coastal scenery found in the famous Nubble Lighthouse, the crisp, cool air at Niagara Falls or the legendary show of wildlife found during our whale watching trip, this tour will not disappoint.

Our reliable coach driver gets us going on time as we pull out from northwest Arkansas and travel north through Missouri. Tonight we rest in Effingham, IL and enjoy our Welcome Dinner Making Memories will host in appreciation for your participation on this tour with us.

Today is fairly light travel covering only 260 road miles. Our afternoon has a bounty of discovery as we visit the official United States Air Force Museum on Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. Many rare and one-of-a-kind aircrafts are found in this 360 piece collection. Powerful sensory exhibits are displayed, from the Wright Brothers’ legacy all the way to today’s stealth technology. A nice emphasis on WWI aircraft is highlighted during our visit.

Our drive today brings us to the evening inspiration found in the majestic, raw, powerful force of Niagara Falls, NY. You’ll be in awe of the falls whether it is your first visit or your umpteenth. This is one place you’ll “fall” in love with; and Making Memories is glad to arrange this love story!

Our late morning departure from breakfast gives us plenty of time to rest and enjoy this space. We will have an up close, personal encounter with the Falls as we board Maid of the Mist. Here we soak up spray from the continuous overfall of 600,000 gallons of water per minute. We’ll have monumental views and monumental memories from this amazing natural wonder.

Today we have a treat awaiting us. We’ll stop and ponder the beloved Norman Rockwell Museum housing an extensive collection of works featuring the small town American scenes reflective of the 1930s and beyond. This museum draws a worldwide audience, including those who hail from northwest Arkansas and southwest Missouri. We also go to “Vermont’s Little Grand Canyon” in the breathtaking Quechee Gorge where there are quaint antique shops, specialty boutiques and collections.

Our morning visit takes us to the Loon Mountain Tramway where we travel on the longest scenic gondola in New Hampshire. The White Mountains are sure to leave a lasting impression of awe-struck inspiration as you see the mountains and valleys alike covered in garments of color from stunning fall foliage. We have some great stops planned to encompass photo opportunities and simply drinking in the leisurely nature scenes.

This morning is loaded! We are treated to an Ocean Avenue tour just prior to our 4-hour whale watch tour, where we can expect to encounter wildlife of all kinds in our 20-mile journey out in the Atlantic Ocean. “Captain Gary” has been at the helm of our vessel since 1998 and we are provided with plenty of rail space and decks for excellent views. You can retrieve your lunch from the ship’s galley kitchen. While on a roll, we’ll continue our day filled with excellence by stopping at the most photographed lighthouse in Maine, the Nubble Light House. This quintessential, beautiful lighthouse is in a gorgeous area – you will want to ensure you have fresh batteries for Day 7 of this tour!

After breakfast, you’ll want to hustle to the coach for our exclusive guide who give us an in-the-know, in-depth tour of Boston. After lunch, we visit the nation’s official memorial to our 35th President during our time at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum. Here we will encounter documents, images and artifacts which span JFK’s life.

This morning we get a visual treat as we come across such places as Times Square, Central Park and the Rockefeller Center in New York City. Our tour elevates as we board our water-touring vessel which takes us by 101 NYC sites by water. If you are in NYC for the first time or a repeat visitor, you’ll be captivated by the marvelous structures this city is home to. Before leaving, we will spend contemplative and reflective time at the 911 Memorial grounds. We will check into our host lodge for the evening and then attend dinner Making Memories hosts at Plain & Fancy Restaurant, the Amish pass-the-platter dinner feast which has been featured on the Travel Channel.

Steeped deep in Amish country, we wake up to a two-hour locally guided tour seeing Amish farm life, shops and way of life. A delightful change of pace from the busting NYC we just enjoyed! Lunch is provided by Making Memories at Amish Home, all you need to bring is your appetite! Stanton, Pennsylvania is our home for the night.

Day 11:

Following breakfast, we begin the first of two days where we hit the road hard! But have no worries about deluxe coach travel. Making Memories has safe and reliable drivers and a tour specialist on the coach to accompany you through the trip. We have special delights along the heavy road traveling portions of our trip to keep boredom from setting in. You can choose to participate, drop your nose in a book or welcome the Sandman as you catnap. We make our nightly stop in Effingham, Illinois.
