The golden beauty of autumn in the North Country is one of the great treasures of this world. Words fall short when describing this wonderful land draped in the glory and splendor of fall, but we have more than just the breathtaking panoramas in store for this trip: trains, dune rides, Mackinac Island, and even a few hidden mysteries are in store. Just be sure to bring your camera so you can capture some of these awesome moments. One thing is for certain: this expedition has it all and you will make some amazing lifelong memories. Passport Required
Day 1:
Sit back and prepare for an exciting, unforgettable journey, and leave the driving to us. Take this first day on the road to meet and greet your fellow travelers, and enjoy the beautiful countryside. The end of our first day sees us overnighting in Champaign, Illinois.
Day 2:
Meals: Breakfast
Today we continue on northward toward our goal. We’re going to make a stop at one of Michigan’s treasures, Saugatuck Dune Rides. On this tour you can enjoy your dune ride and also learn about the lost town of Singapore. After this charming little stop, we once more head to the open road to continue our journey north to our stop for the night in Acme, Michigan.
Day 3:
Meals: Breakfast / Lunch
The third day of our venture we arrive in a magical little place known as Mackinac Island. Some people may not have heard of this remarkable place, but I promise nobody ever leaves this island disappointed. This is a place where the automobile never replaced the horse and carriage. You have lodging properties where corporations never replaced family ownership. You have a Revolutionary era fort where the British couldn’t permanently replace Americans. You have fudge stores where box recipes never replaced 19th century recipes. Mackinac Island is a place to ditch your routine and discover the rhythm of waves and horse-clops; a place that getting there is half the fun. You have lunch this afternoon at The Grand Hotel followed by a horse-drawn carriage tour of the island. The rest of the afternoon is yours to explore, we lodge on Mackinac Island, Michigan.
Day 4:
Meals: Breakfast
This day starts out with some free time as you have all morning to explore, shop, eat, and generally do whatever it is you feel like doing in this wonderful place. Just be sure to be at the docks by 12:40 p.m. so you don’t accidently get left behind. (What better place would there be to get left behind?) Our journey continues as we visit the Soo Locks. They are legendary in the maritime world – a group of mighty locks that have provided safe passage and a vital shipping connection within the Great Lakes for nearly 160 years, however, they are so much more. They are an engineering wonder and a living, breathing history lesson. After our boat ride through this impressive wonder we make our way across the border into Canada. Next two nights lodging in Saulte Ste. Marie, Ontario.
Day 5:
Meals: Breakfast / Lunch
All Aboard!! Today we will be taking a train ride on one of the most popular train tours in North America. This day long excursion will take you 114 miles into some of the most pristine landscapes in the north. We will make our way over towering trestles, past clear rivers, through breathtaking granite formations, while all around you this beautiful land is cloaked in the golden splendor of autumn. Then when you think it can’t get any better we will descend into a canyon where we have an hour and a half to explore the beautiful Agawa Canyon Park. After we’ve done our exploring and taken our pictures, it’s back on the train for the return trip to our hotel.
Day 6:
Meals: Breakfast
For this leg of our journey together we cross back into the good ole US of A. Once we’re back on this side of the border, we will stop at the wonderful Tahquamenon Falls State Park. The waterfalls of the Tahquamenon River are even more amazing at this gorgeous time of year. The Upper Falls, one of the largest waterfalls east of the Mississippi, has a drop of nearly 50 feet and is more than 200 feet across. A maximum flow of more than 50,000 gallons of water per second has been recorded cascading over these falls. We depart this stunning treasure and hit the road to our overnight in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Day 7:
Meals: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner
This exciting day is all hush, hush. That’s right folks today we have a mystery day. So just sit back, relax and let us take you somewhere unknown. The curious will just have to put a stopper on their curiosity and go with it. One thing is for certain, you’re going to have a great time today with what we have planned.
Day 8:
Meals: Breakfast / Dinner
Guess what folks, the mystery continues today as we make our way homeward. We will spend today driving towards a great surprise so just grin and bear the mystery. What better way is there to make our way homeward than by looking forward to something unknown? I promise that you’re going to love where we’re headed.
Day 9:
Meals: Breakfast
As the last day of our adventure we come back home. Take this day to look back and reflect on all the great times had, good friends made, and unforgettable memories you’ve experienced. We loved having you travel with us. We hope you had an amazing journey and we sincerely hope you’ll come back again to make more memories with us.
