Tour Description

This is an unbelievable tour that not only gives you the beauty of New England clothed in its magnificent fall colors with splashes of crimson and gold but it also gives you a tour of the less traveled roads such as The Hamptons on Long Island and upstate New York. You will enjoy such adventures as a narrated tour of The Hamptons to explore the life styles of the Rich and Famous, a Gondola Ride up Loon Mountain, Whale watching Cruise, Dig for Diamonds and Cruise the Erie Canal. We have even thrown in a Mystery Day to keep you guessing. Believe me, you will love it. Making Memories Tours wants you to make so many memories that you won’t be able to choose which one you liked best. This tour has such a diversified selection of attractions and scenery – the changing scenes from the Atlantic Ocean, through the majestic mountains of New Hampshire and Vermont – to the amazing New York State, each one competing for your adoration, and the colors of fall, reigning supreme!

Day 1:

We depart today for an awesome two week tour that will have you spellbound through the entire tour and make you wonder how two weeks could go so fast. Of course, we have to get there first so today is a travel day that will take us into Effingham, Illinois for our overnight.

Day 2:

Our destination today will be Dayton, Ohio but before we check into our hotel, we have a lovely treat for you as we tour the United States Air Force Museum on Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. There are many rare and one-of-a-kind aircrafts in this 360 Piece collection. You will see displays from the Wright Brother’s all the way up to the Stealth Bomber. After this tour, we will check into our hotel for our nights lodging. (B)

Day 3:

Making Memories has a fun Surprise for you this morning. Guaranteed to be one of a kind and “American Made”. We continue on our journey with our destination to be New Stanton, PA for our overnight. (B)

Day 4:

Once again we have a travel day and the scenery should be spectacular as we travel through the Tunnels and impressive Mountains of Pennsylvania. The mountains should be beginning to show off their sumptuous new wardrobe of fall colors. We continue on to Long Island for our two nights lodging. (B)

Day 5:

We will meet our Step-on-guide to tour The Hamptons of Long Island and learn their history and culture. We will visit such places as Montauk Point Lighthouse, considered the closest point in the USA to the European Continent. Enjoy lunch and some shopping as we explore the life styles of the Rich and Famous where residents such as Jerry Seinfeld, Paris Hilton, David Letterman, Steven Spielberg and others have made their home. If time is available, perhaps we will have a stop at Cooper Beach, rated one of the top ten beaches in America for an opportunity to wiggle our toes in the Ocean. Return to our hotel. (B)

Day 6:

We check out of our hotel this morning and drive the short distance to Huntington, New York to tour the OHEKA Castle. This magnificent Gold Coast Mansion rests on the highest point on Long Island and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Oheka Castle was built by Otto Hermann Kahn between 1914 and 1919 and is the second largest private home in the United States with 127 rooms and over 109,000 square feet. The Castle is currently a historic hotel. After this regal tour, we travel to Port Jefferson for lunch on our own before we board the Bridgeport/Port Jefferson Ferry to ferry across the Long Island Sound to Bridgeport, Connecticut. Our overnight tonight will be in Worcester, Massachusetts. (B)

Day 7:

We travel through some choice scenery this morning as we travel to Kennebunkport, Maine. We have some free time downtown for some shopping and lunch before checking into our hotel for tonight. It would be Un-American to be this close to the ocean and not have Lobster to eat so after checking into our hotel and relaxing for a few minutes, Making Memories Tours will treat you to a Lobster Dinner at the Nonantum Resort in Kennebunkport. Return to hotel (B.D)

Day 8:

What fun we have in store for us today! First of all, we will take a drive on Ocean Avenue for a view of the Bush Compound where President Bush spent much of his summers. Next, we will board our boat for a 4-hour whale watch tour. The boat also has a variety of food so that you can enjoy lunch, on your own. We should encounter lots of sea life on our 20-mile journey out into the Atlantic Ocean, hopefully some of them will be whales. There will be plenty of decks and rail space for you to be able to get your pictures of the whales. After this refreshing and delightful tour, we will re-board our coach and travel across Maine to North Conway, New Hampshire, our home for tonight. Dinner is included this evening at our hotel. (B, D)

Day 9:

We have a couple of picture stops for you this morning and then we will drop you off downtown for some serious souvenir shopping. After lunch we depart North Conway and head west to Lincoln, New Hampshire and Loon Mountain. We will take a Gondola Ride that will take us up 7000 feet to the top of Loon Mountain. You will be able to see the Presidential Range and if the day is clear you will be able see Mount Washington, the highest mountain in New Hampshire. Continuing west, we will arrive at Quechee Gorge, the little Grand Canyon of Vermont. Walk out on the bridge that spans the gorge 162 feet above the Ottauquechee River for a great view of this natural spectacle. Our lodging will be in White River Junction, Vermont. (B.)

Day 10:

Our journey takes us across Vermont into New York State, and Herkimer, New York. We should arrive in time for Lunch at the Waterfront Grille, included, before boarding our boat for a 90 minute cruise on the historic Erie Canal, the canal that opened our western lands and helped make America what she is today. Travel thru a 100 year old Lock and be lowered and raised twenty feet. It’s the smoothest “liquid elevator” you’ll ever be on. After we return to the dock, we will visit the world famous Herkimer Diamond Mines. Here you can go into the surface mines and search for diamonds or you can sluice mine, similar to panning for gold. You get to keep what you find. Our overnight will be in Utica, New York. (B.L)

Day 11:

Today is a Mystery Day! We have some really beautiful and fun things for you to do but we want to pique your interest and keep you wondering what will be next. Enjoy! (B)

Day 12:

We come full circle today as our tour takes us back towards home. With breaks and lunch along the way, we should arrive in Columbus, Ohio for our overnight stay. (B)

Day 13:

We will take our morning break at Centerville, Indiana at the Warm Glow Candle Company. Warm Glow offers primitive, long lasting, highly scented candles and a variety of flameless options. Their candles are 100% Hand Dipped in America by Hoosiers in the great state of Indiana. They are proud to be an American made product. After this interesting break, we continue on to Collinsville, Illinois for the last night out on this tour. (B)

Day 14:

This is the last day of this magnificent tour. The two weeks have come and gone and it really doesn’t seem possible. God’s Handiwork has been awe-inspiring. Throw in a few man-made attractions and you have had a tour that Memories are made of. (B)
