Tour Description

The Fall Colors of the New England Countryside lists very high on God’s most beautiful creations. With a cruise on the Thousand Islands, located along the peaceful border between northern New York State, USA and southeastern Ontario, Canada and complete it with lighthouses and historic castles, this will be a destination that you will want to come to again and again. Of course, if this isn’t enough, there is a whole lot more – Niagara Falls, Lake Placid, Loon Mountain Gondola Ride, Whale Watch Cruise and the Breakers. This tour is a masterpiece! So come with us for the tour of a lifetime!

Day 1:

We board our luxury coach this morning for a fabulous tour that Making Memories has planned just for you. Your Tour Director will help you get acquainted with your new traveling companions as you proceed to Effingham, Illinois for your first night’s Lodging.

Day 2:

We have another travel day that takes us into Dayton, Ohio for our overnight; however, before we check into our hotel, we will enjoy a tour of The National Museum of the U.S. Air Force. Galleries present military aviation history, boasting more than 360 aerospace vehicles and missiles on display—many rare and one of a kind—from the Wright Brothers up to the Stealth Bomber. Lodging located in Dayton, Ohio. (B)

Day 3:

Today we have an early evening arrival in Niagara Falls, New York. Our hotel is right in the middle of just about everything, and you can walk to most all the venues. You may wish to walk down to view the lights on the Falls or walk across the bridge to the Canadian Side of the Falls (Passport required) to check out the shops and casinos. Lodging will be in Niagara Falls, New York, USA. (B)

Day 4:

Wake up this morning to the thunder of the Falls! You will want to get out and enjoy every minute of this spectacular attraction. Making Memoires has included a ride on the “Maid of the Mist,” a cruise that takes you to the base of the Falls. You cannot imagine the force of the water as it tumbles into the river below, forming a rain-like mist. But don’t worry! They furnish raincoats, so you can experience this awesome adventure. We depart Niagara Falls right after lunch to continue to another magnificent portion of our tour. We arrive in Alexandria Bay, New York, Thousand Islands Area, for two nights lodging. After getting checked into our hotel, we will depart on a cruise with an included dinner at Singer Castle. You will be greeted by tour guides for a narrated tour of four floors filled with furnishings and artifacts original to the castle. You will also see many of the secret passages, and of course, speculate on their purpose. Don’t forget your walking shoes! (B.D)

Day 5:

We will have a relaxing morning at our resort before boarding our boat for their two-nation tour. Cruising among the Thousand Islands aboard a guided boat tour is among the most popular reasons why visitors come here. Cruises include trips past dozens of islands, fairytale castles, lighthouses, island mansions and wildlife all accompanied by true tales of pirates, bootleggers and the Gilded Age rich and famous who all spent their time here. Our tour will end at Boldt Castle where you will have the opportunity to explore and experience an attraction like no other. George C. Boldt, millionaire hotel magnate, began the construction of Boldt Castle in 1900 as a tribute to his beloved wife Louise. Mrs. Boldt passed away, and Mr. Boldt stopped all construction on Heart Island, leaving the property vacant for over seventy year. But today, it is once again becoming what it was always meant to be, the premier home and attraction in the region. You will enjoy lunch on your own at the castle, and then catch the shuttle back to the mainland. After returning to the mainland, you will be able to tour the Antique Boat Museum, George Boldt’s houseboat LaDuchess, as well as a tour and tasting of the Coyote Moon Winery. Dinner is included at our Resort. We will lodge at Alexandria Bay, NY again tonight. (B.D)

Day 6:

We have a beautiful drive this morning through the Adirondack Mountains to Lake Placid, New York. Lake Placid was home to two Winter Olympic Games, one in 1932 and the other in 1980. It is also one of the oldest vacation destinations in the U.S. and was chosen realm of Gilded Age Glitterati who held court at the Lake Placid Country Club. This massive resort overlooked both Mirror Lake and Lake Placid. We will have a step on guide join us for a narrated tour of Lake Placid, including the Olympic venues. Our lodging tonight will be in Lake Placid. (B)

This Historic District was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. It includes the Village Center along the Ottauquechee River.
