Day 1:
Lodging: Hampton Inn Meals: Dinner
The day gets started as our coach gathers the crew for our sailing adventure to begin. We will travel north today and make our evening stop in Des Moines, Iowa. There, Making Memories invites you to be our guest at our welcome dinner hosted by the multiple-award winning, Dinner Machine Shed restaurant. This restaurant is not farm-themed but dedicated to making farmers proud because farming is everyone’s bread and butter.
Day 2:
Lodging: Hampton Inn Meals: Breakfast
We won’t be on the road long before we stop for a special treat at the Eighth Wonder of the World, the SPAM Museum where you’ll be tickled pink and meaty at this expansive collection of the spiced-pork artifacts. This is a place you want to go and get a t-shirt! After this fun stop, we load back on the bus for an early evening arrival at our hotel in Duluth, Minnesota.
Day 3:
Lodging: Country Inn and Suites Meals: Breakfast
Today is a glorious day of anticipation as we drive a short bit before arriving at the largest freshwater lake in the world, Lake Superior. Kick back and enjoy the grand sightseeing cruise on Lake Superior. This is indeed a superior lake appealing to nature enthusiasts, lighthouse fans, history buffs and waterfall lovers.
Day 4:
Lodging: Viking Arms Inn Meals: Breakfast
Four days into our tour, we keep making memories by exploring, engaging and experiencing time at the Wisconsin Maritime Museum. Here is the nation’s most restored WWII submarine and a Model Ship Gallery. The afternoon includes a ferry ride on the largest cross-lake passenger service, an authentic steamboat with an outside deck you can utilize as you enjoy crossing Lake Michigan in this special way.
Day 5:
Lodging: Holiday Inn Express Meals: Breakfast
Ahoy! Eat up a hearty breakfast for a full day ahead. Today is a spectacular day as we luff the sails to slow down and really enjoy the environment. We will not only be treated to Lake Huron but also the memorable Mackinaw Island for a tour and free time in this beautiful island getaway.
Day 6:
Lodging: Drury Inn & Suites Meals: Breakfast and Lunch
We will arrive in Frankenmuth just in time for lunch where we will be eating at the famous Bavarian Inn. The Bavarian Inn offers rustic Bavarian cuisine. If you’re not feeling adventurous they also offer a wide variety of American cuisine. After lunch we’ve gained access to a premier tour of the City of Frankenmuth together to discover why this is called Little Bavaria displaying authentic Bavarian architecture and taking pride in preserving the German heritage. You’ll have the afternoon to explore on your own, so make note of what you’d like to learn more about. Perhaps the historic St. Lorenz Lutheran Church, St. Julian’s Winery or the local historical museum. It’s up to you be Making Memories today!
Day 7:

Hello or Bonjour! Get your passport out and ready to go, as we head toward Ontario, Canada, where English is primarily spoken, but don’t be surprised to hear French spoken as well. Before we cross the border we will stop and take in the Model T Automotive Heritage Complex, the birth place of the Ford Model T where over 12,000 Model T’s were assembled. To balance the boat, we will follow up the Ford tour with a stop at the GM Renaissance Center; the place to be in downtown Detroit! This multi-tower skyscraper has an unforgettable observation tower on the 72nd floor as well as tribute to the GM history.
Day 8:
Lodging: Holiday Inn at the Falls Meals: Breakfast and Dinner
What a treat today! After breakfast we will go the Hamilton Waterfront Trust. This place has an established 50-year history connecting you to the water’s edge, while showing you the city. We will board the Hamilton Harbour Queen for a cruise on Lake Ontario, the smallest of the great lakes. Lake Ontario lies at the base of Niagara Falls. What a breathtaking experience to have a three hour tour of Niagara Falls which straddles the border between the United States and Canada. Our afternoon arrival at our hotel gives you time to freshen up for the evening treat-dinner at the exquisite Niagara Falls Skylon Tower, a revolving dining room where the menu is rivaled only by the spectacular view.
Day 9:
Lodging: Country Inn and Suites Meals: Breakfast and Dinner
Today we have built in plenty of time for you to explore Niagara Falls without feeling rushed. Have your camera ready and load up that memory card with this picturesque backdrop! Sit and watch people take in this magnificent beauty, or take off and explore – you decide how your time will be spent making memories. In the afternoon we enter back to our native America checking in for our overnight lodging, giving you time to rest. The evening is slated for a top-notched summer to-do event taking in an evening summer dinner cruise on Lake Erie. See the fiery sunset; red, yellow and orange tones upon the green-glass like waters of Lake Erie. As you partake of this summer evening dinner cruise, you can watch ducks dive for dinner and take deep, slow breaths allowing the bay breeze to rejuvenate you.
Day 10:

All good things must come to a close. After many great days of cruising and exploring, we find ourselves headed back home. Life waits for us, but for today, let’s continue to marvel in the beauty we’ve experienced over the past few days. We’ll do this by sharing our pictures and our stories with new found friends over the past days.
Day 11:
Meals: Breakfast
Our final day of travel propels us back into our time zone. Prepare to enter back into the business of life, you’ll be refreshed and renewed from your intake of the Five Great Lakes Sailing Trip. Remember the smell of the north wind, the beauty of the shore lines, the various types of animal life spotted along the way, the monumental Niagara Falls, the fun stops at the Ford and GM centers, the quaint lifestyle found in celebrating the German heritage, the maritime museum highlights and the one-of-a-kind SPAM museum. Your trip will forever be embedded on your camera, your memory and stamped in your passport!
