Day 1:
Off we go into the wild blue yonder …….boarding our flight on Monday, May 29, 2017 and arriving in Munich, Germany on Tuesday, May 30. Some say losing a full day in travel, some say catching up on rest, I say welcome to Europe. (In Transit)
Day 2:
From Munich airport, we board our motorcoach and make our way to a ferry boat and cruise to the Herrenchiemsee Castle (admired as one of the main attractions of Germany). On the island we will enjoy a carriage ride to the castle and a guided tour. Herrenchiemsee Castle, built for King Ludwig II of Bavaria (known as “Mad King Ludwig”) was inspired by the Versailles castle in France. After the castle tour we will be off to our next stop: the beautiful city of Salzburg, Austria for the next four nights.
Day 3:
Meals: Breakfast
One of many icons in Salzburg is the birthplace of 18th-century composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. We will start our Salzburg experience with a walking tour where you can enchant yourself with the charm of Mozart’s city. You will have a free afternoon to explore this amazing city at your leisure.
Day 4:
Meals: Breakfast
Today we travel to the historic city of Innsbruck, Austria. Nestled high in the Alps, Innsbruck, the “Capital of the Alps,” is the most beautiful city in the state of Tyrol, Austria. History, Art, Music and Architecture are at every turn as you traverse the streets of this fabulous cultural center. We will meet our step-on guide and explore all this city has to offer.
Day 5:
Meals: Breakfast
Today we have a decision to make: Will it be “The Eagle’s Nest” or the “Sound of Music” tour? Does Hitler’s former mountain retreat intrigue you? Or are you already humming Do- Re – Mi? For those of you who cannot make up your mind; for an extra charge, you can do both.
Day 6:
Meals: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner
This morning we depart for Passau, Germany. In the afternoon, we will arrive and board our ship the MS Symphonie. It is time to start our journey of the beautiful Blue Danube River. We will have a presentation of the crew and begin to sail to the Engelhartszell Region.
Day 7:
Meals: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner
We depart in the morning for an excursion to the Benedictine Abbey of Melk which is perched high on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Danube. It is the symbol of Austrian baroque at its finest. Onward we go to Durnstein, with free time in this picturesque village in the Wachau Valley. It is famous for King Richard the Lionhearted and its baroque church. Back on board the ship, we depart for Vienna; arriving early evening for a tour of the illuminated sights of Vienna.
Day 8:
Meals: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner
A lovely day in Vienna awaits you as we begin with a visit at the Schonbrunn Palace. This was the summer residence of the Emperor of Austria & his family. If you think the palace is spectacular, wait until you step outside to see the “rose gardens.” WOW! After touring, you will have free time to discover this magnificent city on your own. After returning to our ship, we will have a gala evening on board. We will be cruising to Esztergom during the night.
Day 9:
Meals: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner
We continue our cruise with a visit to Esztergom, the former capital of Hungary, during the reign of the Arpad kings. It is still a prominent town as it is the seat of the Hungarian archbishops. The city is full of treasures with its neo-classic basilica and former royal palace. In the evening, we will do a visit of Budapest by night.
Day 10:
Meals: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner
Are you ready to explore the city and history of Budapest? We will have a sightseeing tour of the city and see how it embodies the contrast between the twin cities of Buda and Pest which were separated one from the other by the Danube River before being united in 1872. So much culture and beautiful city to discover as you have the rest of the day to do as you wish. After dinner, we will have a Folk evening with traditional dances in Budapest.
Day 11:
The time has come for us to disembark our ship and fly home. What a wonderful trip: the vast cultures, the fascinating history, and fun filled tours. We hope you take your royal jewels of memories back home to your castle!
