It’s December, which means that it’s Holiday time and no one gears up for the Holidays like the nation’s capital! From a tour of the beautiful and festively decorated home of George Washington to a Christmas dinner disaster with the Hatfields and McCoys, this crisp and spirited getaway is the perfect way to get prepared for the upcoming Christmas season. In this day and age it’s all too easy to forget what Christmas is all about so we’ve put together an amazing trip for you, designed to get you in the Christmas spirit and make some memories all along the way.

Day 1:

Ready, Set, and we’re off. The first day of this festive and joyful holiday expedition, we will spend the day on the road journeying towards our nation’s capital and all the excitement to come. So take the day to meet your new friends then sit back and relax. Our travels take us into Terra Haute, Indiana.

Day 2:

Meals: Breakfast
Are you singing “I’m dreaming of a White “HOUSE” Christmas”? You won’t have to dream much longer, after your breakfast this morning our journey goes on as the open road calls us to another day of getting closer to our destination. The anticipation builds as we make our way into Maryland for our overnight in St. Cumberland.

Day 3:

Meals: Breakfast
This is the day we’ve all been waiting for as we arrive in our Nation’s Capital. First on the agenda for today we are going to the United States Capitol Building to pick up our knowledgeable guide for this day in beautiful Washington D.C. Our professional guide will take us to some of the best sights of the Capital; we’ll be seeing places like the Ford Theater, the Library of Congress, the Jefferson Reading Room and much more. After such an exciting and adventurous day, your hotel will be waiting for you across the Potomac in Roselyn, Virginia, where we will be staying for the next four nights.

Day 4:

Meals: Breakfast / Dinner
Our magical Christmas adventure continues today. There is so much to see in D.C. and together we’re going to see as much as we can, starting with the White House Visitors Center, where they offer visitors a window into the president’s iconic home. While here we will learn some of the history of the presidential house and of the families who have lived there followed by a special opportunity to walk through the White House to view the Holiday decorations. Moving on we visit memorials of some of America’s greatest thinkers and achievers, Jefferson, FDR and Martin Luther King Jr., after which we enjoy some deserved free time in Historic Georgetown. This afternoon we will head up to Mount Saint Albans, the highest point in Washington, to tour Washington National Cathedral. Dinner this evening will be at the Occidental Grill, a dining institution with history dating back 110 years. Following dinner enjoy an Illuminated Night Tour of Washington’s Monuments and Memorials framed by the city’s famous Holiday decorations including the tree at City Center, Canadian Embassy Christmas tree, Capitol Building Christmas tree and the National Christmas tree and Pageant of Peace on the Ellipse (if decorated at this time).

Day 5:

Meals: Breakfast / Dinner
Following breakfast this morning at the hotel we embark to go visit Arlington National Cemetery to pay our respect to those who have fallen for the sake of our great land and our freedom. We also will have the opportunity to view the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknowns, then off to visit the Iwo Jima Marine Corps and the National World War II Memorials. Now we leave to go enjoy some free time exploring the various museums and galleries at the Smithsonian Institution; there is so much more to see here than can possibly be fit into one day. This afternoon we head out for and excursion to George Washington’s Historic Mount Vernon House and Gardens for a colonial dinner at the Mount Vernon Inn followed by a special Holiday candlelit tour.

Day 6:

Meals: Breakfast / Dinner
Today we’ll spend part of our day visiting some beautiful American landmarks like the Lincoln, Vietnam Veterans, and the Korean War Veterans Memorials. We make our way to the National Archives to take in a sight of some of the greatest documents ever written, I’m speaking of course of the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution. This amazing day now changes giving you free time to take in some more of the museums and displays presented at the Smithsonian Institution. This evening get ready for a treat as we enjoy dinner and a show, and see an incredible holiday themed performance at Ford’s Theater or the Kennedy Center. Tonight we return for our last night in our hotel in Roselyn, Virginia.

Day 7:

This morning our last stop in Washington D.C. will be at the Botanical Gardens to view more Christmas beauty at the region’s largest indoor decorated tree and train display. We now bid ado to our capital and start on our way westward. We will arrive for our overnight tonight in Christiansburg, Virginia.

Day 8:

You’ve got a couple hours to relax and get ready for this evening as we depart for the famous town of Pigeon Forge, the home of the infamous Hatfields and McCoys. Tonight we will attend a side splittingly funny dinner theater where they put the FUN in dysFUNctional!
