Why not get a jump start on the holiday spirit by jumping on board with us and going out and making some Christmas memories? The trip includes a Christmas themed dinner theater, beautiful cathedrals, delicious food, a Santa Claus museum, and loads of opportunities for Christmas shopping, of course. What better way to get ready to celebrate the Christmas season than with family and friends.
Our first day out on this merry excursion takes us up the road to Mount Vernon, IL. Leave your cares behind and take this time to get know some of your fellow travelers, and maybe make out your Christmas list by checking to see who’s been naughty or nice.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Today we will be heading on to Gasthof Amish Village. Our guided tour of an Amish village including an Amish home and several stores will give you a chance to pick up some unique gifts in time for Christmas, learn about some Amish Christmas traditions, and enjoy an Amish meal. Afterwards, we will make our way to the Dubois County Museum where we will learn all about the area and the traditions the German immigrants brought with them. We will be overnighting in Ferdinand, IN. Rest up because you have an exciting day ahead of you tomorrow!
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
We have a fun-filled day full of Christmas spirit in store for you today including Dr. Ted’s Musical Marvels, a colossal collection of musical instruments dating all the way back to the 1800’s. (It is one of Di’s all-time favorite museums.) We also have planned for you the Santa Claus Museum, the Holly Tree Christmas Shop, and the Santa Claus Christmas Store all located in Santa Claus, IN, all followed by a tour of the Monastery Immaculate Conception just up the road in Ferdinand IN. Founded in 1867, the Monastery Immaculate Conception, the “Castle on the Hill”, was and is among the nation’s largest communities of Benedictine women. After a guided tour of this spectacular monastery, we will enjoy a very special ceremony and dinner. The ceremony is the opening of the yearly Christkindlmarkt and we’ll be checking that out tomorrow.
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
You will have several hours to explore the various festivities including honoring the tradition of Christkindlmarkt where booths of handcrafted gifts and food, toy makers, wood carvers, basket weavers, candle makers, privities, and antiques await you. We will have several hours to enjoy the 150+ vendors and various live entertainment, giving you plenty of time to buy some interesting and unique Christmas presents. Once you’ve had your fill of shopping, we’ll hop back on our coach and begin heading homeward. We’ll be overnighting tonight in St. Louis, but before you hit the sack we’ve got an awesome dinner theater show planned for everyone at the Royal Dumpe Dinner Theater. Let’s enjoy this wonderful show before we say farewell tomorrow.
Today we head west for home. We’ve had a lot of fun, seen some interesting places, probably bought some neat things and made memories. But more important than all that, we hope that this trip has helped to remind us of the meaning of Christmas and the fact that it’s not about us; it’s BIGGER than just us. On that note, the Making Memories crew would like to thank everyone for traveling with us and say have a “Merry Christmas!”
