This cruise is everything a vacation ought to be: a relaxing escape to a faraway land where you can leave all your worries behind as you enjoy a laid-back cruise through the heart of Europe.  Isn’t it time you let yourself unwind? On this relaxing cruise, let us take care of you.  All you have to do is make some memories.  Amsterdam. Cologne. Strasbourg.  Lucerne. All these amazing, old cities are waiting for you.  Waiting to share their history, their beauty, their landmarks and their culture with you!

Day One:

Well, this is our first day together on our pilgrimage to the old country. Which means, we’ll be boarding our flight (just in case you thought we’d be driving).  We’ll be taking off into the blue skies and touching down in Amsterdam where the memory making begins!

Day Two:

Meals: Lunch, Dinner

Our day begins with us landing in Amsterdam this morning, where our European adventure begins with a short drive over to Mudurodam Park after a little time here to see the sights we’ll be moving on to the Royal Delft Factory for an included lunch and a tour. This evening, we board our riverboat, meet the crew and enjoy dinner before we depart on a nighttime canal tour of the city.  So, take in the sights on Amsterdam’s canals, bridges, and boats. It’s the perfect way to unwind after a day of sightseeing here in beautiful Amsterdam.

Day Three:

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Today starts out with a guided tour of Amsterdam in the heart of the beautiful capitol of the Netherlands.  Millions of visitors come to see this historic city every year, and we have the opportunity to see all the famous landmarks and attractions  After our tour of the city today, you have a decision to make for your evening plans: enjoy some free time, here on the riverboat or go out on the town.  The evening is all yours!

Day Four:

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Our travels down the lovely Rhine River begins today as we make our way down the river; however, along the way we make a stop in Nijmegen to check out some art work.  The Kröller-Müller Museum boasts the second-largest Van Gogh collection in the world: almost 90 paintings and over 180 drawings.  Moving on with our journey, we continue our scenic cruise south into Germany.

Day Five:

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

We spend our morning cruising through the beautiful German countryside as we make our way to Cologne.  Here our ship docks for a fascinating City Tour of Cologne through the historic sections of Cologne.  Founded by Emperor Claudius nearly 2,000 years ago as a Roman settlement, this ancient city has much to offer the curious traveler.  Or if you prefer, you can take this time to head out on your own and experience the city and culture yourself.  We’ll be waving goodbye to Cologne as our riverboat carries us onward to more adventures together.

Day Six:

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

This morning, we continue to be swept away by the Rhine as our vessel takes us further south until we arrive at the city of Rudesheim where you have the option of doing a little sightseeing on your own or join in a tour with a stop at a wine tasting cellar, followed by a visit to the Mechanical Music Cabinet Museum.  This is the first museum collection of automated musical instruments in Germany and holds one of the largest and most beautiful collections of mechanical music boxes. There are approximately 350 exhibits of mechanical instruments dating from the 18th to the 20th century.

Day Seven:

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Leaving Rudesheim this morning, our relaxing river adventure continues with a stop in Heidelberg today, and that can only mean one thing: a visit to Heidelberg Castle.  Heidelberg has been considered the epitome of German romanticism since the 19th century. The impressive ruin attracts around a million visitors a year!  In the 16th and 17th centuries, Heidelberg was one of the most magnificent castles in Europe.  This castle transports you back in time to a place where enormous castles and extraordinary wealth were lavishly displayed for the world to see.  After some time to explore this grand castle, we board our boat and continue on with our journey.

Day Eight:

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Today our cruise comes to an end as we arrive in Strasbourg.  Strasbourg is a modern dynamic town.  We spend the day exploring this city, which also happens to be the seat of the Council of Europe and a meeting place of the European Parliament.  During our guided tour of Strasbourg, we see the 16th and 17th century picturesque, half-timbered houses.  You can also visit the Gothic Cathedral, famous for its three ornamental portals and the beautiful stained glass windows.  Something you can count on is that your time spent here in this ancient city is bound to be unforgettable!  We leave Strasbourg behind this afternoon as we make our way to the city of Bern Switzerland where we will be staying for the night.

Day Nine:

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

On our first full day in Switzerland, we make a short drive to Interlaken, one of the best known and most popular summer holiday resorts in Switzerland.  Here you can spend some time at the Hohematte, a 700-yard-long pedestrian paradise of shops, hotels, and sidewalk cafes, interrupted only by inviting gardens.  Our excursion today takes us to the very heart of the Bernese Alps- the mighty “Eiger.”  Today we hop on the train to the Waterfall Valley of Lauterbrunnen and on to the highest railway station in Europe Jungfraujoch (and no I don’t know how that is pronounced).  Here we visit the Ice Palace and the Sphinx Terraces where you can take in breathtaking views of the Aletsch Glacier, the largest river of ice in Europe.  Returning to Interlaken today, be sure to take some pictures of the gorgeous views of these mighty mountains.

Day Ten:

Meals: Breakfast

This morning, we travel from Interlaken to the city of Lucerne where our private guide will give us all a tour of this Renaissance city.  During our tour, we learn important, humorous and interesting facts about Lucerne’s history, churches, bridges, narrow streets, towers, squares, and of course, Lucerne’s trademark 14th century Chapel Bridge with its Water Tower, Europe’s oldest covered bridge.  See the Musegg Wall built in 1386 and too many other extraordinary sights to list here.  Suffice it to say that there is an incredible number of things to see and do here in Lucerne, which is good because we’ll be staying here for the next two nights.

Day Eleven:

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

The adventure just keeps getting better and better! Today we have a leisurely cruise on the crystal-clear Lake Lucerne to Alpnachstad, where we ascend by the steepest rack railway in the world to the top of Mt. Pilatus.  Once on top, you will have time to walk to the scenic viewpoint and admire the stunning breathtaking panorama over the Swiss Alps and Lucerne. Then we descend by aerial cable car through pine forests and mountain meadows to the village of Kriens, where we are returned to hotel in Lucerne by a private transfer.

Day Twelve:

Meals: Breakfast

Well, the time has come for us all to bid farewell to Europe because today, we must board our plane and head home.  All things must pass, and that includes our time together on this memorable excursion to the old country.  All of us here at Making Memories want to thank everyone for sharing this incredible experience together, and of course, we hope to see you again!
