The West Coast. Ever since the days of Lewis and Clark, over 200 years ago, the dream of travelling the breadth of our country to see the Pacific Ocean has lived on in the hearts of countless Americans. However, it won’t take us quite as long as the pioneers who came before us (Thank You, Modern Technology).  California will be our destination: a remarkable land where the grand scope of nature’s beauty blends with mankind’s incredible accomplishments.  Rugged Pacific Coastline, giant Redwoods, snow-capped mountains, some Napa Valley wine, as well as a colossal dam, and an inescapable prison, oh, and also, Yosemite National Park.  This is where sweet memories are made.

Day One:

One of the most convenient things about our modern age is the ability to rapidly travel somewhere far away in an incredibly short amount of time.  This means that while we may start our day here in the Mid-West, by this evening we will all be across the country in California.  So, rest up tonight because tomorrow, we’ll start exploring some of the best the Golden State has to offer.

Day Two:

Meals: Breakfast

Let the memory making begin as our day starts with a drive up the coast along California’s famed Coastal Highway.  This twisting, cliff-hugging route is considered among the nation's most scenic roadways.  Our scenic drive comes to an end today as we reach Fort Bragg, CA.  Here, we have something else in mind.  How about a Scenic Train Ride on some of the first tracks laid down by the California Western Railroad in 1885?  But that’s not all, folks!  After we return from our train ride, we head over to the Fort Bragg Botanical Garden for a look into a pollinator's paradise! The Gardens offer a unique environment for many different creatures, including more than 160 species of birds that live or visit here annually.  Tonight, we’ll be staying in Fort Bragg, CA.

Day Three:

Meals: Breakfast

Today, get ready to travel to a land of giants! Yep, this morning we arrive at the Avenue of the Giants to stand in awe of the enormity of the California Redwoods.  Humboldt Redwood State Park is home to the largest remaining stand of virgin Redwoods in the world.  Take in the view and walk amongst the largest and most majestic trees in the world.  These masterpieces of nature are believed to live for more than 2,000 years.  Sadly, we must eventually depart these ancient sentinels of the forest and continue our adventure.  We travel northward to our overnight in Eureka, but first we’ve got a stop planned at Blue Ox Millworks, where we learn a little about the technique and craftsmanship of the Victorian Era.

Day Four:

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Our morning begins as we hop on the bus and start traveling East until we reach Redding, CA. After lunch, we head over to Shasta Lake for a guided tour of Shasta Dam.  At 602 feet high, it is the eighth tallest dam in the United States and forms the largest reservoir in the state.  Shasta Dam really is an incredible feat of human engineering!  Leaving the dam, we head over to our hotel here in Redding, where everybody has a chance to freshen up before we take off again for our evening entertainment.  Lake Shasta is studded with hundreds of coves and bays all cupped by thousands of acres of gorgeous mountainous scenery, so what better way to spend this evening than with a Scenic Dinner Cruise on this glistening mountain lake.

Day Five:

Meals: Breakfast

This morning, our bus hops onto the interstate for a quick trip south to Sacramento for a lunch in downtown Sacramento.  After lunch, we make our way over to the California State Capitol Building for a guided tour of the seat of California’s government.  If you pay real close attention, you might notice a distinct similarity between this Capitol building and our Nation’s Capital.  So, what’s next you ask?  Well, how about we just head on over to Napa Valley and find out!  Now, Napa Valley is famous for something, and that something is wine!  So therefore, this afternoon we check out one of Napa’s famous Wineries.  Afterwards, our overnight is here in Napa, CA.

Day Six:

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Today, get ready for a memorable experience on the Napa Valley Wine Train. This amazing excursion echoes the glory days of train travel with fine dining service and beautiful Napa Valley scenery onboard the exquisitely restored vintage rail cars. This antique train runs on 25 miles of track in the heart of the Napa Valley, restored with Honduran mahogany paneling, brass accents, etched glass partitions, and plush armchairs that evoke the spirit of early 1900s luxury rail travel.  Take a trip into the luxurious American past and experience an unparalleled memory-making journey.  Taking all this in, you might be wondering to yourself how could it get any better? To answer that question, we travel onward this afternoon until we reach Yosemite National Park, where we will be staying the night.  So, sleep well because another exciting day is waiting for everyone tomorrow.

Day Seven:

Meals: Breakfast

Waking up this morning, we have an amazing day ahead of us because Yosemite’s breathtaking waterfalls, unique rock formations, deep valleys are all right here waiting for you!  Alpine meadows and groves of beautiful trees will leave you mesmerized.  Our guided tour takes us to view sites such as Yosemite Falls, Half Dome and El Capitan, all while learning about the park’s history geology and wildlife. You may never want to leave; however, this afternoon, we must load back up and continue our adventure on to our Merced, CA where we will be staying the night.

Day Eight:

Meals: Breakfast

San Francisco is our destination for the next couple days, and we arrive just in time for lunch and some free time on Fisherman’s Wharf.  After eating and having a little time to do some shopping and exploring, we meet our Step-on-Guide for a guided tour of beautiful San Francisco.  Our tour highlights The Golden Gate Bridge, Nob Hill, Chinatown, The Presidio, and the ‘Painted Ladies’ Victorian Homes.  We will be staying the next two nights here in San Francisco.

Day Nine:

Meals: Breakfast

Our last day here in San Francisco kicks off with a cruise on the bay over Alcatraz Island to tour the maximum-security penitentiary that once incarcerated notorious criminals such as Al Capone, Machine Gun Kelley, and Robert Stroud, the “Bird Man of Alcatraz.”  On your guided cellblock tour, you will be able to hear conversations of some of the guards and inmates of Alcatraz.  What better way to “capture” some memories?  Afterwards, you will have to the rest of the day free to do as you please.  For a true local experience, you may wish to take a ride up and down the thrilling hills and historic streets of San Francisco on one of their famous cable cars.

Day Ten:

Meals: Breakfast

It is hard to believe that this is the last day of our tour!  With so many things that we have been able to see and do, it has passed much too fast. As we fly home today, think back to all we’ve seen and experienced and the newfound friends you were able to share this adventure with. We promised you a tour that Memories are made of, and we hope you will agree that we have met all the requirements.  We would like to thank all of you for travelling with us, and we hope to see you again soon!
