Isn’t travel wonderful? Here at Making Memories we think so and. in honor of mankind’s ability to transverse the world, we put together this unique and spectacular trip to go see and learn about the wonderful machines that allow us to go really, really fast. Imagine flying through the sky faster than any bird, picture the Iron Horses that allowed our ancestors to settle the wild west, and dream of cars that could blow the hair right off your head.  The reality is that we’re going to see, up close and personal, these incredible inventions.  From the world’s greatest air show (Oshkosh Air Show) TO one of America’s largest car museums TO America’s largest railroad museum, the fun won’t stop till we get you home.  If time flies when you’re having fun, then don’t blink or you’ll miss this trip as it flies by.

Day One:

Meals: Dinner

Hang on to your hats because this trip is going to take off fast.  Just a few hours after taking off we’ll be making our first stop in Jefferson City.   A fun-filled afternoon is ahead of us on our first day, so sit back and trust us to show you a good time in the state capital.  After dinner, we will be staying the night right here in Jefferson City.

Day Two:

Meals: Breakfast

We’ve got another fun-filled day today as we start our day off by touring a prison.  Afterwards we’ll be learning a little about train travel by traveling on a train!  Since this journey is about planes, trains and automobiles, it only makes sense that part of our journey involves traveling part of the way by train.  Arriving at the Amtrak station we’ll be taking the MO River Runner from Jefferson City to St. Louis.  After departing our train, we’ll continue onward to our overnight in Terra Haute, IN.

Day Three:

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Three days into our excursion together we make our way to Indianapolis, where our first stop of the day takes us to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  Our time here includes a tour of the track where we can learn all about this impressive racetrack and the amazing cars that race on it.   After the tour, we’ll be able to check out the Indianapolis Motor Speedway museum for a little more history about the amazing machines that make this sport possible.  Today’s fun is not over because our next experience brings us to the Grissom Air Museum, where you can learn about historic aircraft and immerse yourself in the story of flight.  We’ll be overnighting tonight in Indianapolis, but before we turn in, we have dinner and show planned for you at the Beef & Boards Dinner Theater.

Day Four:

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

The adventure continues as we start our fourth day together by arriving at the Subaru factory.  Subaru of Indiana Automotive is the home of North American Subaru production.  Subaru’s are built in this three million square foot facility and we will learn all about just what goes into building machines that can take us all over the country.  From the stamping shop to the finished vehicle, you’ll have the chance to see it all.  I hope everybody likes Amish food because for dinner tonight we’ll be enjoying our meal at Das Dutchman Essenhaus.  If this famous home cooking doesn’t satisfy your appetite, then I don’t have a clue what will.  Our overnight will be here in Middlebury, IN.

Day Five:

Meals: Breakfast

First thing on today’s agenda is arriving at Jayco RV for a tour of their manufacturing plant.  We’ve been seeing different forms of transportation on this trip and this stop will show us a luxurious side of traveling. It will also take us through the process of how these incredible machines of modern transportation are manufactured.  After saying goodbye to Jayco RV, we will also soon be saying a short-lived goodbye to Indiana as our journey together takes us farther north into Michigan.  Our next exciting experience has us exploring the Gilmore Car Museum. Founded in the early 1960’s the Gilmore Car Museum is North America’s largest auto museum with nearly 400 vehicles on display and over 189,000 square feet of exhibit space.  Discover hundreds of extraordinary vehicles including the classic Dusenburg, the elusive Tucker and the Model T.  Memories will be made here!  We’ll then make our way back into Indiana and overnight in Hammond.

Day Six:

Meals: Breakfast

Today is primarily a travel day as we make our way all the way to Milwaukee, WI where we will spend two nights.  We will, however, have one exciting stop today as we head over and check out the Illinois Railway Museum, America’s largest railway museum.  This incredible repository of railroad history is the result of decades of work from a dedicated group of railroad enthusiasts.  Recreating the largest operating demonstrative railroad showcase on the North American continent, this museum is bound to be something to be remembered for years to come.

Day Seven:

Meals: Breakfast

Today we will be seeing the highlight of this amazing trip, the EAA AirVenture Oshkosh (Air Show) so get ready to take off and make some memories.  From humble beginnings more than 60 years ago, this breathtaking display of aerial skill and daring has evolved from a small gathering of aircraft and aviators into a grand, weeklong celebration known as The World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration.  The World's Greatest Aviation Celebration has it all when it comes to aircraft:  Warbirds, Vintage, Homebuilts, Ultralights - - some you might find in a hangar at your local airport, others so unique they are the only one of their kind.  You name it and there's likely an example of it at Oshkosh.  Whether you're an aviation enthusiast or an aviation novice, this air show has something for you. No matter what your age, you'll be entertained, informed, and thrilled by the countless activities available that reflect "the spirit of aviation".  This is the kind of bucket list gathering you will never forget.

Day Eight:

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Our adventure is coming in for a landing as we start toward home today.  On our way south we have an exciting lunch in store for everyone at Hardy’s Reindeer Ranch.  A tour of this reindeer farm will be followed by an old fashion chuck wagon meal (and a not quite so old fashioned show with our meal.)  Afterwards, we continue on to our overnight in Effingham, IL.

Day Nine:

Meals: Breakfast

Home is waiting for us today and this has been one doozy of an adventure.  We are so glad you came with us and shared your time on this exciting journey.  Don’t forget “the sky’s the limit” when it comes to Making Memories!
